ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: The Internal Communications Specialist will create and plan content to engage, inform and inspire our internal audiences. They will be a key resource for departments and project teams needing communications advice and support. The Specialist will research, plan and create internal campaigns and report on their effectiveness. They will engage with others in the Marketing and Communications Department to design and execute communications products.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and execute internal communication plans for a broad range of initiatives
Create content and manage internal channels (newsletter, digital screens, employee app, email broadcasts)
Proactively pitch content and find new ways to reach employees. Find ways to better reach non-desk workers to improve the effectiveness of communications initiatives.
Gather feedback online and in-person: measure and evaluate campaigns, and report on opportunities for improvement
Coordinate employee engagement events and internal presentations
Plan and create content for internal communication platforms including the ON News, Employee App, screens with the aim of keeping employees continuously informed
Recommend innovative solutions and methods to continuously improve reach of employee communications
Work with the Communications team to ensure content is consistent with external facing documents
Act as a brand journalist - asking questions, researching issues, and pulling together concise and clear snapshots
Write content for different communication mediums (presentations, internal memos and emails, fact sheets, key messages, briefing notes, promotional documents)
Be a key partner for other departments such as Human Resources or IT by working on different written content projects to support corporate initiatives
Drafts internal emails for senior staff
Works in Sharepoint, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and other programs to lay out internal facing items
Develop resources and training to help and inspire others to communicate effectively
Advise and support the Communications Manager and Director of Marketing and Communications on appropriate methods, tools and messaging to effectively inform stakeholder during organizational changes, special projects or launch of new projects
Identifying, analyzing and addressing internal audience communication needs
REQUIREMENTS:
University or College education in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related discipline
5 years of experience in corporate communications within a large company
Advanced writing and editing skills
Knowledge of Adobe tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), is an asset
Knowledge of content management tools (CMS) and HTML language is asset
Ability to maintain excellent professional relationships with internal stakeholders
Experience and interest in working with new and emerging communication platforms
Very comfortable managing several projects at once and meeting deadlines
Independent, diligent, demonstrates good judgment and shows high attention to detail
Demonstrates enthusiasm, versatility, resourcefulness, creativity and strong ability to work in a team
Proficient with Microsoft Office, hosting virtual meetings and presentations, and camera equipment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Willingness to travel throughout Ontario Northland service area (Winnipeg, Cochrane, Moosonee, Sault Ste Marie etc.)
Valid G drivers license in Ontario
Bilingualism is an asset
