Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
As the Intern, Naval Architecture you will be responsible for assisting the Manager, Naval Architecture in the successful completion of all assigned engineering tasks from concept preparations through to production engineering and finally to the construction of the vessel.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, V7P 2R2.
What you'll do
In this role, you will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:
Provide engineering support as assigned in Naval Architectural area including hydrostatic (stability and weight), hydrodynamic (resistance, powering, sea keeping and noise prediction)
Provide engineering support as assigned in Structural area including hull, outfitting, foundation, structural connections and production
Develop lifting and turning calculations and prepare reports
Develop Bill of Materials and Purchase Order Specifications
Collaborate closely with Operations, Planning and Production Control to tackle production issues
Issue and review engineering change requests
Review 3D models
Perform diverse engineering drafting and calculations
Provide support to suppliers and subcontractors
What you'll bring
Enrollment in a Naval Architecture degree program
Passion for shipbuilding and interest in implementing Naval Architecture concepts within a production environment
Comfort working in a heavy industrial setting
Strong communication skills
Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including AutoCAD
Strong technical skills including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings
Excellent digital literacy including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Seaspan's Internships are 4 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
Start Date of Internship: Monday, January 12th, 2026
End Date of Internship: Friday, May 1st, 2026 (4-Months)
