Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Innovation will be working with experts and leaders across the organization, the Innovation intern undertakes unique assignments that supports investigation outcomes and enhances the visibility of developments in the technology areas of Reality Capture and Autonomous Manufacturing.
Reality Capture: Investigation into 3D laser scanning and visual object recognition solutions that contribute towards capturing and tracking current-state ship arrangements and equipment.
Autonomous Manufacturing: Adoption, testing and evaluation of the applications and uses of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems (e.g. drones, cameras, IOT) for work quality detection and inspection and worker safety in heavy-industrial environments.
Seaspan's Innovation team is actively developing in several technology areas including digital twins, green technologies, and autonomy in support of use cases for future vessels, engineering services, and in-service support. Our innovation program includes current and planned projects seeking scalable solutions that integrate emerging technologies using real-time sensors, 3D spatial information, and visualization technologies to improve Seaspan's shipbuilding and refit business.
