Intern, Fleet Management
This is a full-time summer internship lasting from May 11, 2026, until August 28, 2026.
Job Summary
The Intern, Fleet Management will support CN's Fleet team in delivering key initiatives across the full lifecycle of CN's fleet of approximately 5,000 rubber-tired vehicles. These range from SUVs to highly specialized trucks equipped with cranes and rail gear. The team is responsible for:

  • Capital renewal planning and vehicle acquisition
  • Vehicle specification development and build quality oversight
  • Licensing, permits, and fuel card program administration
  • Repair coordination via a centralized call center
  • Managing a service network for vehicle maintenance and repairs
  • Providing technical support for vehicle downtime and troubleshooting
  • Telematics and performance monitoring
  • Fleet policy enforcement and regulatory compliance
  • Vendor qualification and relationship management
  • Data integrity and reporting for fleet operations
  • Liaising with internal functions to resolve vehicle-related matters
The intern will contribute to any of these major responsibilities, gaining exposure to operational, technical, and strategic aspects of fleet management.
Major Responsibilities
  • Support fleet operations across capital planning, service coordination, and technical troubleshooting
  • Develop, document, update, and optimize vehicle specifications to improve build quality through quality management processes
  • Analyze vehicle performance indicators such as preventive maintenance compliance, availability, asset utilization, and dwell time; identify improvement opportunities and execute initiatives
  • Deliver continuous improvement projects to automate or streamline fleet-related processes
  • Perform audits and reporting such as Vehicle Use Audit, Capital Spend Tracking, Vendor Selection Audit, and Data Integrity reviews
  • Recommend changes to minimize preventable downtime and improve reliability
Requirements
  • Technical knowledge in mechanics, electronics, and hydraulics
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to change and manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Effective communication skills, bilingual (English and French) required
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps is considered valuable
Education
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
