Job Description


Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to build a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS\xe2\x80\x93related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Accounting Intern will have an opportunity to develop hands-on experience in a Seaspan finance & accounting function. They will provide support to the finance team through analysis, collaboration, and supporting governance initiatives. This internship will provide an entry level professional with real world learning opportunities in an engaging environment supporting their career development.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 115 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Support governance initiatives including policy compliance, workflows management, and governance projects (ICFR)
  • The DFA Policy defines what a commitment on behalf of Seaspan is and who the individuals authorized are to make such commitments. Related responsibilities will include data control and documentation
  • Tax accounting: GST/PST reporting and compliance
  • Financial reporting: reconciliations, depreciations, and analysis
  • Supplier prequalification: research and assessments
  • Reconciliations: Using a template and data extracts, sort, group, and organize financial data in Excel
  • Other finance and accounting projects
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring
  • Currently enrolled in a 2 or 3 year undergraduate program in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration
  • Demonstrated leadership in work and/or academics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact comfortably at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient technical skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Financial Systems)
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, to think creatively, and to problem solve
