Job Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.


Reporting to the Industrial Energy Manager, the Intern, Energy Management will be responsible for assisting with data collection, energy assessments, participating in energy projects, tracking performance, energy engagement, awareness, and internal reporting, along with varied day-to-day tasks. They will have an opportunity to work across shipyards.


Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, BC.



What you'll do



Collect and organize utility data into a database or tracking tool Monitor primary energy drivers influencing energy consumption at the key stages of construction in the shipyard Monitor baseline energy model performance for the key stages of construction in the shipyard Prepare monthly and quarterly energy consumption reports, highlighting trends, variances, and anomalies Support the energy manager in developing measurement & verification plans for projects Assist in preparing business cases for energy projects Help with cost-benefit and simple payback calculations Prepare information or documents needed for energy feasibility studies or design analysis Support the energy manager in walk-through energy audits of the shipyards Take readings from meters, loggers, and sensors Document and track operational, maintenance, and external events that impact energy consumption to ensure accurate analysis of usage and performance metrics Document energy-saving opportunities such as load displacement, energy efficiency, low carbon electrification, and energy conservation measures Participate in Energy Management Committee Meetings

Education and Communications


Support the development of educational materials for energy management programs (e.g., intranet articles, toolbox talks, TV slides, posters, etc.) Help to organize and facilitate VSY and Seaspan-wide environmental and energy events, as directed by the Industrial Energy Manager

What you'll bring



Be working towards a diploma or degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Systems, Environmental, Chemical or Industrial) Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal, written, listening, etc.) Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience Ability to analyze data and produce information reports Demonstrated ability to work within set timelines Organized with strong digital literacy Willingness to learn about health and safety Comfortable moving around a heavy industrial environment

Seaspan's Internships are 4 or 8 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

End Date of Internship: Friday, May 1st, 2026 (4-Months)
