The student will assist the pavement engineering team in planning, visiting, data analyzing, and preparing road and highway surfacing strategy reports throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Based on each jurisdiction's specifications and requirements, the surfacing strategy report outlines the approach and recommendations for maintaining, rehabilitating, widening or reconstructing pavement surfaces.
This position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in civil/pavement engineering and project coordination.

What you can expect to do here:
Assist in analyzing raw data related to pavement conditions, traffic, and historical pavement performance.
Participate in training sessions as needed to enhance knowledge and comply with WSP's health and safety requirements.
Assist the team in planning site visits.
Participate in site visits to assist with gathering data related to pavement conditions, geometry and traffic volumes/traffic counts.
Support the creation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for surfacing projects.
Assisting the project manager in preparing progress reports.
Assist in the preparation of design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates under the guidance of engineers.
Conduct research on best practices, new materials, and technologies in surfacing strategies.
Assist in the evaluation of innovative techniques for road maintenance and improvement.
Work closely with other members of the pavement engineering team to support project goals.

What you'll bring to WSP:
Currently enrolled in a civil/geotechnical/transportation engineering, or related program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
Very good report-writing skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and PDF-xChange editor; familiarity with CAD software is an asset.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Enthusiastic, well-organized, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability and willingness to travel (short term) within Canada, as required.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Compensation
Salary range (in British Colombia): $24,50 - $32.25
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
