:Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by CanadiansAs BTS Intern part of the Digital Shipyards Architecture team, you will be working exclusively with Shipyards and WashCorp IT (Shared Services) IT and business projects. Each of these projects deliver scopes of our integral business process with their connected solutions. To be able to manage all these process flows, Seaspan is using our Enterprise Architecture tooling ARIS of Software AG. As our overall architecture model is maturing it is required to improve our process model according to our standards and future process end state. The assignment will first focus on process flow mapping and documentation, process gap analysis, standard operating procedure documentation, data quality analysis and updates and testing support, the intern will support these mission critical projects to achieve their objectives and commitments to the business.Secondly within the Data Architecture scope, you will be involved with performing data analysis, supporting to build up our data model, data lineage, data augmentation and data quality improvements.Seaspan Shipyards has established a critical focus on our Data Architecture besides our business processes, for both efficiency, costs reductions and unlocking new(er) technologies such as AI. The architecture team exist of Solution Architects, Data & Integration Architect, and Data Business and Quality Analysts. The team works also closely together with the Business Analysis CoE, a team formed of all our different Business Analysts who drive all the process mapping, detail solution analysis, designs and standards supporting these.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 889 Harbourside, North Vancouver.What you'll do

  • Working closely with the different Architects, Business Analysts and selected business stakeholders, to help assess and document process gaps, make process change recommendations to meet project requirements; make related changes to standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in needed data cleansing efforts by conducting data analysis for quality and completeness; contribute to the clean-up effort by making required data entry updates.
  • Collect and analyze process data to initiate, develop and recommend business practices and procedures that focus on increased productivity.
  • Under the guidance of the Business Analyst CoE representative, Senior Solution Architect, and Data Architect document process flows in ARIS according to the process modeling standards, reviewing outputs with associated teams for accuracy.
  • Under the guidance of a Senior Business Analyst and Data Architect, work with business stakeholders to document data definitions, support on data analysis/lineage/augmentation and produce a data dictionary that will support business process and technology solutions, along with training and reporting preparations.
What you'll bring
  • Undergoing a Diploma or bachelor's degree in computer science, Business Administration or completion of a Post-secondary Diploma in Computer Science.
  • A good communicator with strength in collaboration and relationship building, maintains a healthy, open and trusting workplace, with integrity and accountability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Business Process Modeling, BMPN2.0 standards
  • Knowledge and experience on data warehousing, ETL, data modeling and database design.
  • Expertise in modern data management and data engineering tools preferable, Python or Hive, Ruby, Spark, Databricks, Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) is an asset
  • With a passion for service excellence and business enablement, working to develop skills that will deliver on work products that provide measureable business benefit.
  • A keen interest in how business works; continually develops business acumen through learning and training.
  • An interest and some exposure to Organizational Change Management, Project Management and Process Improvement principles.
