RVA is seeking a design oriented, Intern Architect with 0 to 5 years of experience to assist with all phases of our varied projects. The ideal candidate will require strong design skills, technical and problem-solving skills with a distinguished attention to details. The Intern Architect will thrive in a high-pace environment and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants should possess a minimum of 2 years of demonstrable, progressively responsible experience including the preparation of design and construction drawings using Canadian building codes and standards. Reporting to the Manager of Architecture, you have a thorough knowledge of various building types including industrial, office, education and commercial buildings with extensive knowledge of building materials and construction systems, including steel frame, poured-in-place concrete, metal stud, and wood frame construction. You will be responsible for multiple projects, working with junior Architects and technicians. Your role will include the development and coordination of design drawings, working drawings, details, specifications, and construction administration; coordination of sub-consultants; and supervision and co-ordination of work assignments for technical staff.



Duties:



Participate in all phases of project development: Programming to contract administration and close-out Prepare client presentation materials, design development documentation, site and environmental analysis, construction documentation, contract administration and authority submissions on a wide variety of projects under guidance from Principal architect Identify and solve technical problems Coordinate plans and specifications with other disciplines and sub consultants Set up projects in Revit under the guidance of the office BIM Manager Ensure the flow of information within the project team Manage communications with project sub consultants and act as liaison Perform industry related research: building science, code issues, design research, detailing, sustainability, etc. Participate in site meetings and conduct general reviews.

Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in Architecture and registration as Intern Architect with OAA is preferred. Strong ability to develop innovative design concepts to meet functional goals within the project budget. Abilities to do proposal preparation. Proficient with Revit and CAD skills are a must for this role. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, 3D visualization, Lumion and other graphic software is an asset. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good understanding of the Zoning Bylaw, Building Code (OBC/NBC Parts 3, 9) and Accessibility Standards. Able to work either independently or as part of a team. Self-starter with good problem-solving ability. Competent knowledge of building materials, specifications and construction techniques. Experience in dealing with governmental agencies, building codes, and zoning ordinances is considered an asset. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, clients, consultants, and contractors, or other authorities having jurisdiction as required. Knowledge of professional ethics applying to the practice of architecture. Strong skills in producing working drawings and construction details. Working on multiple projects at the same time and being able to meet deadlines effectively.
