Job Summary:
Makami Engineering Group Limited is an engineering consulting firm based in Sudbury and we provide the bulk of our services to industrial clients in Northern Ontario. We are currently looking to expand our engineering capabilities by adding to our growing structural, mechanical and electrical departments. We currently have new positions opened in our Sudbury office for a full-time Electrical Designers (Intermediate and Senior Levels) with minimum of 3 to 5 years (Intermediate) and minimum of 7 years (Senior) of direct industry experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, design, and implementation. This role involves working on electrical power distribution systems design, control systems design, troubleshooting, drafting, project management, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and select electrical systems and components.
Perform basic to complex electrical calculations, fuse sizing, cable sizing, motors and VFD sizing.
Develop and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single line diagrams, and technical documentation.
Perform electrical audits on major electrical power distribution equipment, motors, other electro-mechanical loads etc.
Working under the support and supervision of electrical engineers, ensure compliance with industry codes and standards such as IEEE, NEC, NFPA, IEC, ISO and CSA.
Assist in the selection of electrical components and equipment.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation and control designers and engineers.
Provide technical support for post IFC installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Support the preparation of detailed project proposals and cost estimates.
Support the prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation.
Support project management tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
o College Technology Diploma or University Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience:
o 3 or more years of experience in design and/or programming functions
Technical Skills:
o Knowledge of power systems, control systems, and electrical design.
o Knowledge of industrial programmable control systems, instrumentation, and electrical design is an asset
o Proficiency in CAD software for electrical and control systems design (AutoCAD, MicroStation, EPlan etc.) is an asset.
Certifications:
o EIT/CET or P.Eng. would be an asset.
Soft Skills:
o Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
o Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
o Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of utilities, transmission and distribution infrastructure systems
Experience with power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and protective device coordination.
Experience with ac/dc schematic design, grounding grid analysis for industrial or utility medium and high voltage substations
Knowledge of utility and industrial power distribution systems.
Knowledge of industrial or commercial electrical applications.
Familiarity with distributed energy resources, interconnection and design of control scheme
Knowledge of control system design process and required documentation.
