UNIT DESCRIPTION




Reporting to the Manager of Software Applications for the DeGroote School of Business, the Intermediate WordPress Developer & Client Support works with other developers, stakeholders and IT members to refine solution requirements, align solutions with the business needs, designing, coding, and supporting complex web sites and applications and supporting systems in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ensuring that maximum value and efficiencies are delivered to the DeGroote School of Business community and to McMaster University as per strategic plans is of utmost importance while providing timely support to resolve website and operational issues.

JOB SUMMARY:




Responsible for front-end WordPress development, including creating custom WordPress themes, plugins, new features and functionality. This position requires experience with applicable technology such as WordPress, PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, and a good understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), PCI compliance, website performance and security. This position is a support role and requires regular communication with clients and the developmentteam as a guide/expert.

PURPOSE AND KEY FUNCTIONS:



Layout and build the website front-end comfortably utilizing front-end technologies and frameworks such as WordPress, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery. Convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages and HTML emails. Convert visual designs to functioning front-end pages and elements using frameworks (such as Bootstrap). Build user interfaces for websites Design and develop effective responsive design websites. Assist senior developers by learning and supporting some PHP back-end development utilizing various computing and scripting languages, as well as software such as RESTful API and formats such as JSON and XML. Implement and utilize code versioning and deployment tools. Create, design and generate WordPress custom themes, features and plugins. Convert comprehensive HTML layouts into custom post types. Build and reference advanced custom field (ACF) groups into WordPress features and functionality Meet with clients to discuss and provide guidance on website design, website architecture, content, and functionality. Facilitate technical WordPress training for clients and develop technical supporting and training materials. Ensure accessibility compliance (AODA) as part of the audit process and establish improvements in regards to web accessibility. Troubleshoot content issues and technical bugs. Provide guidance and feedback to other developers on the team. Provide expertise and support to clients for content entry and management in WordPress based on client requests. Inspect HTML and debug issues using tools such as Firebug, and Chrome Web Inspector. Ensure high-performance in all technical aspects. Remain current with frequent changes with web technologies and trends. Support and triage client requests. Assist in monitoring web team inbox and communication with clients. Participate in web team stand-ups and internal meetings. Guide and participate in the QA process with a high attention to detail

SUPERVISION

:


Provides orientation and shows procedures to others. Provide guidance and feedback as a lead-hand to other developers on the team. Assign work to external consultants and temporary staff. Responsible for supervising up to 9 casual employees.
