Your Impact:

Based throughout Western Canada, this position may have the opportunity to be fulltime based on workload or skillset or will begin in the spring as a 6 \xe2\x80\x93 9 month contract with opportunity for extension or transfer into full-time. You\xe2\x80\x99ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams associated with our Western Canada Offices and projects to contribute directly to the environmental planning, permitting, and construction support efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. As an Intermediate Wildlife Field Biologist with a focus on wildlife, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading field crews for multiple survey scopes, including data collection efforts, managing multi-person crews of various experience and scope, liaising with client field contacts, assisting with the development of methodology, and some technical writing. While wildlife studies will comprise the majority of work, the Intermediate Wildlife Field Biologist could also be required to support other biophysical disciplines as needed.

Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology or other environmental discipline, primarily related to wildlife, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Professional designation, with an organization such as the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and/or the BC College of Applied Biology.
  • Multiple years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in environmental consulting related to Canadian wildlife.
  • Demonstrated multi-year experience leading wildlife-related field studies, reviewing and QA field data, and directing and/or managing wildlife crews in remote settings, with an emphasis on wildlife feature searches, bird surveys and nest searches, amphibian surveys and relocations, and targeted species-at-risk surveys.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal wildlife legislation and regulatory requirements, primarily in western Canada.
  • Willingness and comfort working in the field in remote locations for up to 2 or 3 weeks at a time and overnight at hotels and project work camps.
  • Experience in client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative, and desire to lead and mentor fellow biologists.
  • A driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and ability to provide a clean, 3 year driving abstract.
Ideally, You\xe2\x80\x99ll Also Have:
  • Experience working with a diverse range of industrial clients.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and experience writing applications and reports for activities that are provincially and/or federally regulated.
  • Experience in support of other biophysical study areas such as wetlands, rare plants, weeds, environmental monitoring or inspection, and/or fisheries both during field assessments and with office tasks.
  • Ability to think strategically in developing novel approaches to wildlife management and mitigation.
  • Experience traversing and/or working in remote areas in various terrain and weather conditions.
  • Experience driving 4x4 trucks on remote and gravel roads, and experience with UTVs and hauling trailers.
