Due to expansion into the Northern BC, NEXT Environmental looking for an

Intermediate to Senior Biologist

that brings strong technical knowledge, initiative, and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate is passionate about fieldwork, teamwork, and supporting the continued growth of our biology department. While the majority of work is currently urban, preference will be given to application with wildlife biology experience and periodic work at remote forestry or mining camps.

In this role, you will work closely with our current Biology Team (including a Senior R.P.Bio and other biologists) in conducting a diversity of environmental projects to meet our clients' needs.. Ideally, we are seeking a Biologist who has experience completing Environmental Overview Assessments, Municipal Environmental Development Permits, Offsetting/Compensation Plans, and Stream Habitat Assessments.




Job Requirements:




Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio) in BC in good standing; University degree in Environmental Science, Biology or Ecology. Master's degree preferred; More than 10 years of progressive experience sufficient to offer strong knowledge of the Riparian Areas Protection Regulation, Fisheries Act, Water Sustainability Act and related legislation and regulations; Project Management experience with a focus on delivering commitments and meeting or exceeding budget expectations; Experience preparing environmental impact studies/environmental overview assessments, etc.; A motivated, personable, well-organized self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment; Strong organizational and time management skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as advanced technical writing abilities with a focus on attention to detail; Exposure to contaminated sites investigations and risk assessments will be an asset; Experience with aquatic field work (sampling fish and fish habitat, fish handling and tagging, water quality, periphyton & benthic invertebrate communities etc.). Preference will be given to those with BC Environmental Management Act and Contaminated Sites Regulations experience.



Key Responsibilities:




Planning, conducting, and reporting information from Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR) Assessments, Stream Habitat Assessments, and Environmental Impact Assessments; Preparing clear and comprehensive application packages for authorization of works under the BC Water Sustainability Act (WSA), the Canada Fisheries Act, and applications for municipal development permits; Optimally planning and conducting fieldwork in a safe and efficient manner, including accurately recording observations and data; need to locate and manage subconsultants when required; Managing projects through their full life-cycle, including preparing proposals and cost estimates, conducting and managing tasks to approved scopes of works, delivering quality reports on schedule and within budget, obtaining regulatory approval, and monitoring works in the field; Provide support related to construction environmental monitoring, water quality management, and erosion and sediment control, as well as support report and permit preparation working closely with Senior Professionals, Project Leads and other Intermediate and Senior Biologists. Liaising with clients, regulators, and contractors, and finding solutions to challenges posed by development; Provision of leadership to the team through supervision, training, technical direction, and mentoring to more junior staff; and Projects are located throughout BC and some travel out-of-town will be required. This position will work under supervision of a Senior Biologist but does require an individual that can take on tasks and work independently.

The salary range for this role is between $90,000.00 to $110,000.00. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
