Job Description


Purpose of the position Reporting to the Manager, Systems Design, you will lead the architecture and high level system design of SMART products and work with SMART’s functional teams to bring a product from concept to volume production.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gather and create system requirements from various stakeholders, including the Program Managers.
  • Heading the architecture development and high level design of SMART products
  • Driving and developing specifications for the systems with the various functional groups
  • Defining the comprehensive test plan for the system, including verification and validation procedures, to ensure that the product meets the specifications and requirements.
  • Directing SMART’s suppliers and ODM’s to ensure that they understand and are delivering to SMART’s requirements.
  • Working with the various teams to execute verification and validation testing of the product.
  • Assisting root-cause analysis of product issues during the development process, to ensure the items are delegated to the right functional owner.
  • Directing design changes through required approvals, ensuring that the appropriate departments and stakeholders are aware of them, and agree to the potential impacts to their area of the business.
  • Working with stakeholders to define the configurations of the systems, and creating the high-level bill-of-materials.
  • Tracking and reporting the state of progress on the system design, including bug reports, requirements compliance, and bill-of-materials status
  • Performing other duties as required
Education, work experience and skill set
  • 5 years’ experience in a system engineering or similar role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to lead, drive, collaborate, and influence people in a constructive team environment
  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and business reporting
  • Being able to manage product verification and validation
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in the field of Systems or Electrical Engineering.
  • The ideal candidate will have a moderate technical knowledge in a variety of disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Firmware Development, Image Processing, Mechanical Design, Software Development.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, being able triage a problem to the appropriate functional owner.
  • Knowledge of System Architecture and system design principles.
Supervision
  • This position does not have any direct reports
Additional Details
  • Office-based role, fast-paced work environment
  • Travel will be required on occasion for attending manufacture or test of prototype designs.
