Summary
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer will be an integral part of the Electrical Design team. This team is responsible for the overall electrical design for low and medium voltage switchgear products, protection system design, control & automation system design, and generally responsible for providing technical assistance throughout the organization.
This role ensures project designs are executed to meet customer specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality benchmarks. The Intermediate/Senior. Electrical Engineer plays a key role in mentorship of junior team members, cross-functional collaboration with production, sales, and quality departments while championing innovation
and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Mentorship and coaching of junior team members from a technical and professional perspective.
Participation in ITI's EIT Training program as a mentor and supervisor
Provide peer review and final review of design work completed by junior team members as required.
Provide engineering review and application of professional seal for EITs completing work under the direct supervision of the Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for product or design-related non-conformances.
Support the continuous improvement of switchgear product designs with a focus on safety, reliability, and manufacturability.
Preparation and/or review of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bill of materials, and layout
drawings for low and medium voltage custom switchgear products.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards and codes (e.g., CSA, UL, IEEE, CEC, etc.).
Preparation of philosophy/narrative documents for protection, control, and automation systems
Protection relay programming
Collaborate with the production and quality assurance teams to resolve technical issues during
manufacturing and testing.
Serve as a technical liaison for the sales/quotations team for incoming complex opportunities
Implement and improve engineering processes, design standards, and documentation practices.
Requirements
Legally entitled to work in BC, Canada on a permanent basis
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Registered Professional Engineer in Canada (must be elligble for reigstration with EGBC as a P.Eng.)
5+ years (intermediate) or 10+ years (senior) experience working with medium voltage power systems as Professional Engineer
Must have a proven commitment to safety
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop team members
Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of software
Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgement and prioritise workload
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical
Medium voltage system design experience
Knowledge of medium voltage protection systems and protection relays (SEL, GE, ABB, etc.)
Substation control system design
Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
Excellent communication written and spoken
Experience interfacing with BC Hydro whether it be regarding interconnections, power system studies, or otherwise
