About the role

Summary

Responsible for reviewing new submissions with a high premium and highly complex risks. Analyses financial data and assess company operations. Assesses and evaluates complex risks and applies proper pricing, underwriting and risk retention standards. Quotes, negotiates, and authorizes the acceptance of new business, renewals, cancellations and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business. Provides timely and effective communication to brokers. Answers inquiries and makes recommendations to brokers through verbal and written correspondence. Ensures authorized limits are in accordance with established company guidelines and applicable underwriting rules. Applies standard rating and premiums in accordance with company guidelines. Participates in broker visits, insurance industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development. Provides guidance and technical advice to underwriters and underwriting assistants. Mentors and coaches more junior team members. May be required to manage or participate in projects related to the line of business.

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for two Intermediate or Senior Underwriters, Non-Standard Risks to join our growing team!

As an Underwriter in Non-Standard Risks for the Specialty Lines team, you will develop a profitable portfolio of non-standard property and casualty business with an emphasis on developing new business. You will work closely with Intact\xe2\x80\x99s underwriters and brokers to develop and foster relationships, make decisions, assess risks and provide quotes in a timely manner. This is a fast-paced customer driven environment, your ability to work efficiently and establish strong internal and external relationships will be the key to your success.

This is a full-time permanent role based in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna & Winnipeg. We are open to hiring and Underwriter level II or III based on experience.

Showcase your legendary service by being solutions-driven to our broker partners through offering the right products for the right risk.

Assist in portfolio management through governance best practices, profitability, and growth analysis.

Perform technical underwriting audit.

Provide underwriting training, lending expertise colleagues and distribution underwriters.

Support and mentor team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact.

Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel moderate to complex policies following Intact underwriting guidelines and procedures and subject to authority level as specified by the underwriting manager.

Develop and manage broker relationships within the Western Region (BC to Manitoba) by participating in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events.

Work with personal and commercial lines underwriters on referral business.

The Requirements:

Minimum 3 years of Commercial Lines Property Underwriting experience at an intermediate or Senior Underwriter Level.

University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience

Highly organized, with the ability to work towards goals while adapting to change in a fast-paced environment.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to persuade as well as challenge others.

Can deal effectively and respectfully with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with national departmental teams.

Effective analytical, negotiating, and decision-making skills

Can work well under tight deadlines, including organizational and time management skills.

High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability

Digital and Data Acumen, understanding how these two items can support and facilitate the customer and Underwriters experience.

CIP designation or working towards it is preferred.

ACIP, FCIP or CRM designations are an asset.
