LMDG is seeking a skilled Intermediate or Senior Fire Engineer / Consultant to join the Alberta team. About the job: What is Fire Engineering? We are looking to expand our Alberta team by adding a skilled Intermediate or Senior Fire Protection and Life Engineer/Consultant. Fire Engineering is the application of scientific and engineering principles, rules [Codes], and expert judgement, based on an understanding of the phenomena and effects of fire and of the reaction and behaviour of people to fire, to protect people, property, and the environment from the destructive effects of fire. By extension, An Intermediate or Senior Fire Protection and Life Safety Engineer/Consultant by education, training and experience understands: \xc2\xb7 risk management \xc2\xb7 the nature and characteristics of fire and the mechanisms of fire \xc2\xb7 spread and the control of fire and the associated products of combustion. \xc2\xb7 understands how fires originate. \xc2\xb7 human behaviour and response to fire queues \xc2\xb7 fire spread within and outside buildings/structures. \xc2\xb7 how fire can be detected, controlled, and/or extinguished \xc2\xb7 is able to anticipate the behaviour of materials, structures, machines, apparatus, and processes as related to the protection of life, property and the environment from fire. \xc2\xb7 has an understanding of the interactions and integration of fire safety systems and all other systems in buildings, industrial structures and similar facilities is able to make use of all of the above and any other required knowledge to undertake the practice of fire engineering. The Role: The successful applicant will enjoy a client facing role which encompasses project management, technical analysis, & leadership opportunities. Holistically the role involves exploring, mitigating, and expressing risk through the development of project specific fire strategies. The applicant will review drawings, conduct analysis, produce reports, and conduct research as required to identify and develop approaches to demonstrate building code compliance. The technical analysis includes knowledge and application of prescriptive codes and standards and performance-based design that includes fire & smoke modelling, heat transfer analysis, and evacuation & pedestrian modelling. The applicant will also attend project meetings, conduct site visits, and field reviews. Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications \xc2\xb7 Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or post-secondary education and equivalent experience in a related field (Environmental Design, Architectural Technology, etc.). Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Fire Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline would be advantageous. \xc2\xb7 5+ year\xe2\x80\x99s broad fire engineering experience, including: o Current knowledge of Building Codes and related standards o Design experience with fire dynamics and modelling, fire safety and design and evacuation modeling. o Fire engineering surveying properties o Related research \xc2\xb7 Familiarity with a wide range of construction projects (throughout all stages of design and construction), including relevant codes. \xc2\xb7 Experience as project manager for multi-disciplinary projects. \xc2\xb7 Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills \xc2\xb7 Proficiency with Microsoft 365 packages, Bluebeam, Revit \xc2\xb7 Experience in developing and enhancing working relationships with clients and industry professionals in both public and private sectors. \xc2\xb7 Excellent oral and written communication skills \xc2\xb7 Exceptional time management and organizational skills \xc2\xb7 Good interpersonal, client-relations skills. \xc2\xb7 Ability to work independently and as a team player, driven by a desire to make better buildings. \xc2\xb7 Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with integrity. \xc2\xb7 Ability to travel; must possess valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license. \xc2\xb7 A P.Eng., Registered Architect or Technologist (or Training/eligible to become one) \xc2\xb7 Seeking an opportunity to accelerate their career growth in the building and construction sector while still having work-life balance. \xc2\xb7 Enjoys working on a diverse range of projects in Canada and abroad. \xc2\xb7 Enjoys creative problem solving and helping architects and design teams realize a unique vision. \xc2\xb7 A person with an interest in multiple disciplines including architectural, electrical, mechanical, & structural \xc2\xb7 Feels passionate about sustainability and the challenges facing the built environment and wants to contribute in a meaningful way. \xc2\xb7 Willing to travel to support project needs.
