Position Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Information Technology, the main objective of this position is the long-term operation of a complex corporate network, to support connectivity to several outside networks and to provide remedial services to network faults in order to meet the University\xe2\x80\x99s objectives. To this end, the position installs, configures and maintains the University\xe2\x80\x99s network infrastructure and servers, including the mission-critical routers, switches, firewalls, etc. to support and improve the efficiency of the University\xe2\x80\x99s operations. Provides advice and recommendations to peers and the Manager in order to ensure the continuous and safe operation of the University\xe2\x80\x99s networks.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Hardware installation and configuration: Installs (or coordinates with external vendors as required) and configures new hardware components to ensure full and proper integration with the existing infrastructure. Manages the virtual infrastructure and cloud resources and Storage Area Network (SAN). Modifies the configuration of existing components, as necessary, to maintain or improve functionality.
  • System Installation and Configuration: Installs and configures the servers and systems to ensure full and proper system functionality within the existing infrastructures. Gathers and evaluates client needs, analyzes systems requirements, evaluates vendor supplied applications, develops recommendations, and implements accordingly. Modifies the configuration of existing components, as necessary, to maintain or improve functionality and to facilitate the easy retrieval of information by others.
  • Hardware maintenance and repair: Identifies, diagnoses, and develops solutions to repair and resolve technical issues with the network infrastructure, locally and remotely, in a timely manner.
  • Network operation: Monitors and keeps appropriate logs and error statistics regarding essential components of the network infrastructure and ensures quick problem resolution to maintain constant and reliable operation. Maintains the online storage system, fiber channel and ISCSI.
  • Network security services: Implements security measures and ensures the network is properly configured to safeguard network information against unauthorized access. Investigates and analyzes security breaches and recommends corrective actions.
  • Capacity analysis: Conducts capacity planning studies, including research into the current and future capacity, capability and performance of the University\xe2\x80\x99s network and servers in order to ensure the infrastructure is continuously able to support the University\xe2\x80\x99s needs.
What you will bring:
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, Network Technology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working with multiple operating systems concepts and principles in the design, installation and maintenance of large corporate networks.
  • A valid certification such as CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or higher.
  • Experience with F5 LTM load balancer, Cisco Nexus, firepower, DNA.
  • A valid certification such as: VMWARE certified professional (VCP) or SNIA certified storage professional (SCSP) or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of network operation and maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and of network infrastructure hardware components.
  • Experience with computer operations administration.
  • Experience with the use of sophisticated networking test equipment
  • Experience in virtualization technologies, storage and systems administration.
  • Strong attention to detail in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to understand in detail, complex corporate systems such as student information system, human resource, payroll and financial systems and the interactions and interdependencies between application systems.
  • Analytical skills to diagnose and repair hardware and infrastructure problems.
  • Able to proactively keep abreast of emerging technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize own work.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Bilingual - French and English (written and spoken).
