Instrumentation Designer

TWD is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Designer to work out of our company office in Burlington, Ontario.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop instrumentation and control systems
  • Design automation systems including PLC, DCS and communication networks
  • Prepare instrument and control system layout drawings, installation drawings, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, specification sheets, panel layout, instrument index, cause & effect matrices, etc.
  • Specify instruments and final control devices
  • Develop control strategies and control narratives; provide P&ID assistance to Process Group
  • Prepare network diagrams and PLC/DCS gateway interface lists
  • Perform site visits to verify design details
  • Apply engineering concepts to assist in establishing design criteria for assigned projects
  • Support independent design reviews, model reviews, and hazards and operability evaluations
  • Check packages for design fitness, dimensional accuracy, and constructability
  • Monitor compliance with engineering and drafting standards to proactively ensure the quality and accuracy of technical deliverables
  • Ensure that work is checked in accordance with client and TWD\xe2\x80\x99s standards and procedures
  • Working knowledge and good understanding of Electrical Code and Standards such OESC, CEC, CSA and IEEE.
  • Backdrafts redlines from check prints and markups as directed by the Electrical Engineer/Technologist
  • Creates drawings based on sketches, templates or previous designs.
  • Performs routine material take offs (MTO)
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Technical diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in Electrical Design/Drafting.
  • 4 to 9 years relevant electrical CAD experience (previous experience in design drafting or equivalent educational experience using CAD computer systems)
  • Certification in CAD or Drafting would be a strong asset
  • Experience with AutoCAD version 2014 or higher. Experience with Plant 3D is preferred
  • Experience with construction site, ability to perform site inspection and work closely with contractor during constructions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is a must
  • Work effectively independently and as a team member.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skill. Commitment and enthusiasm for learning. Able to work and communicate in a team environment.
