What you'll do





The Protection, Control and Telecommunications Engineering Division engineers BC Hydro's P&C and Telecom systems


and networks. These systems contribute to safe and reliable operation of BC Hydro's electric system while meeting the


performance requirements of system planners, regulators, customers, and other stakeholders. The division contributes to


engineering studies, specifications, standards, design solutions, construction documentation, and provides engineering


oversight of work done by our engineering service partners. It provides technical support during procurement, construction,


testing and commissioning in the project cycle. The division provides asset lifecycle support with critical failure analysis and


emergency operational support for restoring customer supply in event of forced outages. The division is also responsible for


deploying and sustaining numerous regulatory standards, including cyber security standards and compliance practices for


Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and telecommunication systems.




We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Engineer in the Transmission Stations CIP Compliance &


Sustainment team within the P&C/Telecom Engineering Division. This team is responsible for ensuring that the North


American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance processes and


requirements are met, and for ensuring cyber security principles are applied in transmission station Industrial Control


Systems (ICS) Systems.




The CIP Compliance Engineer will work within a multidiscipline team to ensure NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)


Compliance processes are correctly interpreted, processes are understood, and compliance evidence is successfully


delivered by capital and maintenance projects.




The key accountabilities for the Intermediate CIP Compliance Engineer are:




Maintains a collaborative and inclusive culture and participates in employee training and development program.


Facilitates meetings with defined scope, clearly communicates the intent and can follow up on identified solutions with key
stakeholders until resolved.




Identify technical and unique design and field engineering problems and escalate and engage appropriate stakeholders for
collaboration discussions to fulfill NERC CIP compliance requirements and to support successful operations and/or project


completion at BC Hydro.




Sustains and monitors existing CIP compliance processes and workflows, procedures, and quality assurance practices.
Ensures adherence to NERC CIP requirements, BC Hydro and industry standards, policies, practices, and procedures. This


involves participating in violation investigations, sequence of events, and violation mitigation plan deliverables or internal


compliance assurance activities.




Participates and conducts annual CIP Compliance activities and deliverables (e.g. self-certification, audit, vulnerability
assessment, etc.)




Coordinates technical work activities, provides instructions, advice and technical guidance to other engineers, project,
technical and administrative staff.



Prepares signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (POR) in accordance with EGBC and
BC Hydro design practices.




Peer reviews work of other engineers or designers to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to
NERC CIP compliance practices.




Resolves site queries, reviewing field evidence, and issuing connection coversheets during the construction phase of
projects.




Maintains complete compliance documentation with respect to Transmission Stations NERC CIP processes, including all
attestations, field records, and key documents.




Fulfills functional role of CIP Compliance Engineer as assigned, maintains appropriate commitments to project teams, and
coordinates compliance activities with multi-disciplined project team.

What you bring




Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities. Preferred areas of study
include computer engineering, control systems, telecommunications, systems engineering, or power engineering.




Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
(EGBC). The individual shall be proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines, continuing education requirements


and code of ethics.




A minimum of 4 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in transmission power systems,
industrial control systems, telecommunication networks, cybersecurity, or systems engineering.




Candidates with lower qualifications may be considered and evaluated for placement in associated positions at a lower
level.




Experience in NERC CIP compliance and cybersecurity for industrial control systems (ICS) infrastructure/environment is
an asset.




Proactive in ongoing professional and personal development activities such as self-study, attendance at technical and
administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.




Strong communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.


Good understanding of project and task management processes.


Prior experience with Microsoft Excel Virtual Basic for Applications, Microsoft Access, data analytics, scripting in
PowerShell or Python, and port scanning of Operation Technology devices preferred.




Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
