SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager Network Services, the incumbent is responsible for specifying and costing of the installation of university telephone and computer network facilities. The employee is also responsible for the installation, maintenance and support of university access layer network components as well as network infrastructure and spaces in general.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze requests for telecommunications services and propose appropriate, cost effective solutions.
• Analyze and resolve technical problems for university telephony and data network systems.
• Coordinate the activities of external contractors ensuring that work conducted in accordance with university policies and in a timely manner.
• Maintain and troubleshoot access layer network for data and telephone services.
• Install servers and necessary equipment physically in the telecom room and data center.
• Work on the procurement process to purchase necessary hardware and services.
• Participate in the development and implementation of policies and new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the unit.
• Ensure that work completed as specified and that any deficiencies are corrected.
• Assist in selecting and purchasing telecommunications hardware, software and services.
• Assist in producing documentation for community at large as well as for use internally to IITS.
• Maintain awareness of telecommunications technology.
• Develop and communicate project scheduling to all of the relevant parties.
• Produce written cost quotations for proposed telecommunications solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with two to four years of related experience
• Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or relevant certification for cabling design
• Technical knowledge of OSI layer, Cisco network, and different OS (Window, Mac, Linux). ITIL Certification an asset.
• PMP (Project Management Professional) certificate an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of computer network cabling and related infrastructure standards.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and customer-service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects and coordinate the activities of a number of different parties (Concordia resource staff, IITS staff, vendors).
• Conveying technical information to non-technical audiences
• Highly developed interpersonal skills.
• Strong communications skills. (Ability to accurately capture end-user requirements and translate these into project specifications and directives to contractors, vendors and Concordia staff).
• Knowledge of Concordia University organization and procedures.
• Basic skills in MS Word and Excel.
• Experience working within ITIL (or equivalent) framework (Incident Management Change Management, Release & Deploy Management, Problem Management).
• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken English: able to give and understand detailed explanations and descriptions and basic knowledge (Level 3) of written English: able to prepare short, routine correspondence); basic knowledge of spoken French(level 3). Written French an asset.
• Physical ability to perform primary responsibilities (e.g. physical installation of network equipment including mounting devices of up to approximately 40 lbs (18 kg) onto server racks.) attested by successful completion of fitness for duty evaluation to the University's satisfaction.
• Ability to work outside normal working hours as required to minimize service interruption.
