We are currently looking for an Intermediate Accountant to join our Corporate Finance team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, you are a key member of the Nova Scotia Power Finance team, and you will be responsible for providing financial analysis to influence business decisions across the organization and work with various departments within the organization.

As an Intermediate Accountant, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparation of NSPI\xe2\x80\x99s quarterly and annual external Management Discussion & Analysis and Financial Statements, as well as other quarterly deliverables.
  • Preparation of NSPI\xe2\x80\x99s quarterly and annual Regulated Financial Statements and related filings with the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.
  • Involvement in the accounting and reporting related to several of NSPI\xe2\x80\x99s processes, including leases and pension.
  • Supporting the ongoing analysis of financial reporting and disclosure issues.
  • Preparation of NSPI\xe2\x80\x99s annual Financial Statements for NSPI\xe2\x80\x99s pension plans.
  • User/ administrator of our Certent Disclosure Management (CDM) software.
  • Assisting NSPI\xe2\x80\x99s external auditors through quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
  • Working with other departments to provide information as required.
  • Other accounting, ad hoc, and special project responsibilities as assigned.
You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

What skills will make you successful?
  • You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
  • A University degree in finance or accounting with a minimum of one-year related experience, and a desire to pursue an accounting designation (CPA).
  • You will have experience with financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel and be comfortable creating and analyzing spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Hyperion consolidation software (HFM) and/or CDM would be considered an asset.
  • You must be highly motivated, detailed oriented and possess strong leadership, quantitative, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • You can work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines.
  • As the successful candidate you also possess solid business acumen with a strong customer focus and are innovative, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • A related combination of experience and education will be considered.
