The Opportunity

The Intercultural Competency Trainer works with YMCA staff and key community stakeholders to foster a climate in which diversity is valued, and inclusion is prioritized \xe2\x80\x93 especially as it relates to the work of creating welcoming communities for newcomers and visible minorities - both within the YMCA and across the Greater Saint John region. Key portfolios include: the training of all Y staff, AIP Employers, and Key Community Partners on DSI and ICT. Reporting to the Employment Supervisor, this position will help create a more welcoming community and will enhance the long-term culture and impact of the YMCA.

Responsibilities

Training:

  • Design, develop and deliver dynamic, high-quality Cultural Competency Training across various sectors in the greater Saint John community and across New Brunswick;
  • Design, develop and deliver department-specific training for YMCA staff so teams may effectively serve diverse client groups;
  • Work closely with the Client Intake Liaison to support employers bringing staff and families to New Brunswick through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot;
  • Oversee client communications and billing related to trainings offered;
  • Work with Data & Evaluation Coordinator to develop and monitor measurement tools (evaluations, metrics etc.) and report on the effectiveness of training;
Strategy:
  • Participate on the YMCA Board Diversity and Social Inclusion Committee in an ex officiosupport role;
  • Provide information as required for internal/external reports, proposals, grants etc.;
Outreach:
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team to raise awareness and promote clear understanding about the importance of diversity in our community;
  • Engage with community partners and employers about Cultural Competency Training;
  • Attend community events where diversity messaging is key;
  • Work closely with the NEC team to deliver training to NEC Employers;
  • Participate in relevant stakeholder meetings and working groups, as assigned;
  • Foster clarity and collaboration among service providers.
Other:
  • Submit monthly expenses;
  • Attend and contribute to all staff meetings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Newcomer Programming.
Skills and Qualifications

One part facilitator and one part advocate, the successful candidate will possess a strong understanding and passion for diversity and social inclusion \xe2\x80\x93 specifically as it relates to culture. They will bring creative energy to the YMCA\xe2\x80\x99s collaborative, fast-paced environment. They will have experience developing and implementing new plans, they will possess strong change-management skills, and they will be eager to create a more welcoming, inclusive culture in the Saint John region.

Requirements:
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree, Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution;
  • Must be fluent in English; knowledge of other languages is a great asset;
  • Direct experience working with marginalized groups;
  • Demonstrated success as a trainer or adult educator;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
  • Exceptional organizational and inter-personal skills;
  • Computer literate (MS Office 365) and able to navigate online learning systems (Thinkific, Avenue, Coursera, etc);
  • Ability to work flexible hours;
  • HR experience and/or volunteer experience will be considered an asset;
