Role Summary:
NurseAmerica is seeking a compassionate and skilled
ICU RN
in St. Catharines, ON to join a top-tier healthcare facility in
Syracuse, New York
to provide comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care for critically ill adult (or pediatric, depending on unit) patients. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care in situations involving multiple complex systems, invasive monitoring, and life-supportive devices. The ICU RN ensures safe, evidence-based practice, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and responds quickly to changing patient conditions.
What You'll Do:
Perform initial and ongoing assessments of critically ill patients: monitor hemodynamics, ventilator settings, neurological status, etc.
Administer and manage complex therapies: IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, etc.), mechanical ventilation, arterial lines, central lines, etc.
Respond to emergencies such as codes and rapid responses.
Titrate medications and fluids as ordered; monitor lab values, diagnostics, and interventions closely.
Provide patient and family education in critical illness situations; coordinate with social work and case management as needed.
Maintain detailed documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) consistent with facility policies.
Strictly adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and ICU-specific regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical/occupational therapists, nutritionists, and other team members.
Mentor or support less experienced staff, assist with orientation as needed, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
What We Need from You:
Current, unencumbered
Registered Nurse (RN)
license in New York State
BLS
and
ACLS
required;
PALS
,
TNCC
,
CCRN
, or other critical care specialty certifications preferred
Minimum of
2 years of acute care experience
, with at least
1 year in an ICU or similar high-acuity setting
Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and prioritization skills
Excellent communication, teamwork, and stress-resilience abilities
Familiarity with ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and sedation protocols
