Position Overview

Reporting to the Resource Coordinator, the ISW (Integrated Support Worker) will have knowledge and training in personal care skills and be a certified Health Care Aide (HCA). Preferably, the ISW will also have additional training in working with individuals experiencing mental health or behavioral challenges but additional training may be obtained after start date. The ISW is responsible for client care involving Health Care Aid duties and supportive care duties (escorting/transportation) as directed by the Case Coordinator/Resource Coordinator. The ISW may be required to use their personal vehicle when escorting/transporting clients.

Experience

• Two (2) years\' experience as an HCA (Home Care Attendant /Health Care Aide) preferred.
• Two (2) years\' experience working in Mental Health preferred (may include experience as an HCA working with clients with complex needs or behaviors).

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• WRHA recognized HCA certificate required.
• Grade XII minimum or GED equivalent.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

• Valid driver\'s license and vehicle required.
• May be required to provide a Personal Driver\'s Abstract.

• Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
• Regional and Program policies and procedures.
• Mental Health First Aid.
• SafeTALK.
• WRHA Violent Prevention and Protection Modules and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
• Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
• General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the ISW position.
• Ability to provide safe, effective personal care in a manner that considers each individual\'s capabilities and capacity.
• Ability to provide safe, effective personal care in a manner that considers each individual\'s need for comfort, privacy, and respect is essential.
• Understanding of client empowerment and issues faced by individuals experiencing challenges with mental and/or physical health issues.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, family, and coworkers is essential.
• Ability to assess and teach basic life skills.
• Ability to be flexible to meet client care needs.
• Ability to set up and maintain boundaries with clients.
• Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as needed.
• Effective English verbal and written communication skills.
• Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledge in Aboriginal customs, traditions and values.

Physical Requirements

• Position involves extensive physical activity such as lifting, transferring and transporting patients and equipment.
• Must be in good physical and mental health.
• May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens (i.e. residual smoke, pets and or/pet dander), physical and emotional stress.
• May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
• Will include travel between clients with unpredictable driving conditions or potential inclement weather.
• May encounter home environments that could have congested spaces, uneven surfaces (both inside and outside the home environment).

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services. Effective April 1, 2024, Golden West Centennial Lodge will also be part of the WRHA legal entity.
