To process applications for emergency income assistance
To work with OW participants in the communities of Haldimand and Norfolk to provide short term support to increase employability through connections to community resources and programs
To issue discretionary benefits
To issue payment for client and vendor invoices as they relate to Ontario Works benefits (eg, dental invoices, funerals, etc.)
Position Description:
Community Support and Customer Service
Provide customer service through calls, walk-ins and face-to-face inquiries of Ontario Works participants
Provide short term support to Ontario Works participants in the community
Connect and assist referred OW participants to community resources by assisting with referral and application processes for services/supports/programs in the community (eg. medical, addictions, mental health, social housing/affordable housing, education, training, financial, licenced child care ONElist, Child Care Fee Subsidy)
Assist Ontario Works participants to meet the requirements of the Participation Agreement, which may include individual support in the home and community (such as budgeting support, applications for personal documents, etc.)
Arrange transportation for brief service caseload when urgent and appropriate (eg. Medical Travel)
To determine eligibility, approve, and monitor receipts and/or invoices for OW and ODSP discretionary benefits and needs tested funerals (including funeral, dental costs, etc.) based on current Ministry directives & local policies
Intake Assessment
Complete intake assessments and file transfers in and out of the municipality for Ontario Works applicants/recipients
Obtain and verify information from external agencies and verify information pertaining to program participant's eligibility
To determine eligibility and entitlement for emergency assistance under the Ontario Works program
Other administrative tasks as assigned and related to the delivery of Ontario Works
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
Grade 12 plus an additional two year community college diploma
Over one year, up to two years of experience to be familiar with scope of position, or equivalent.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of all community services and supports
Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
