Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Instrumentation Controls and Telecom (ICT) Engineer with experience in the oil and gas sector to join our Conventional Energy Team in Calgary or Edmonton offices. As a part of the Instrumentation Controls and Telecom discipline, your responsibilities within the discipline will be as follows:

  • Provide high-level strategic direction, leadership and support to corporate/project/site staff and management
  • Interviews, evaluates and assigns qualified staff to projects, and recommends salary levels
  • Supports business development, and development of major proposals to Clients
  • Assures compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards
  • Assists ICT leads with establishment of project plans, schedules and budgets
  • Provides guidance and direction to project ICT Engineering staff
  • Monitors the performance of the I&C Engineering function on each project
  • Delegates tasks and authority to Project Discipline Leads as required and supervises resulting actions
  • Approves staff performance appraisals and recommendations to senior management for promotion, salary levels, work assignment and external training programs
  • Promotes, supervises and monitors inter-department relations between Business Units, projects and other departments with respect to performance of I&C Engineering
  • Promotes, supervises and monitors compliance with company HSSEA, Risk Management and QM procedures for project work
  • Participates in project audits
  • Project Execution which may include:
  • Providing input to process P&ID\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Provide input into DBM
  • Design, development and technical content of the ICT portion of project work which may include:
  • Responsible for specifying and selecting field instrumentation and control devices
  • Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Philosophy, Control Narrative, Cause and Effect diagram, and Control system architecture
  • Participate in HazOp, LOPA, and SIL review
  • Preparing and reviewing IO lists and assignments
  • Equipment communications and network systems
  • Selection and procurement of controls hardware
  • Plan, coordinate and prepare equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for various equipment
  • Responsible for performing squad check of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines
  • Have frequent contact with vendors, and internal staff
  • Providing technical support in SAT/FAT
Skills / Qualifications
  • Instrumentation Technologist / Bachelors in Science, Engineering
  • Professional designation, IE: P.Eng. licensed for Alberta
  • Minimum of 20 + yrs. Industry experience
  • Experience in the oil and gas sector. Midstream and downstream experience is preferred
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively
  • Has the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills and database knowledge
  • Application of Smart Plant Instrumentation
