Job Overview

The Journeyperson Electrician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems that support high-performance computing (HPC) environment. This role requires expertise in electrical distribution systems, backup power infrastructure, and the integration of cooling technologies unique to HPC facilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-driven, and experienced in maintaining mission-critical environment.

Job requirements
Education & Experience
Diploma or degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience with instrumentation and control systems in mission-critical, industrial, or utility environments (data center, power plant, refinery, forestry or manufacturing).
Experience with PLC, VFD, or SCADA/BMS systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, or similar).
Familiarity with air and liquid cooling systems, valves, pressure sensors, flow sensors, temperature transmitters, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, OPC, Ethernet/IP).
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of instrumentation calibration and loop-checking.
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including chillers, pumps, and heat exchangers.
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, control schematics, and one-lines.
Proficiency in CMMS systems and digital work-order management tools.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical abilities.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure, 24/7 environments.
Job responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance
Perform routine inspection, testing, and calibration of sensors, transmitters, flow meters, actuators, and control devices for air and liquid cooling systems.
Maintain Building Management System (BMS), Environmental Monitoring System (EMS), and Equipment Power Monitoring System (EPMS).
Monitor and adjust control parameters to optimize system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.
Support the integration and operation of liquid-cooled rack manifolds, heat dissipation units (HDUs), and air-handling controls.
Perform troubleshooting and repairs on PLC-based control panels, SCADA, field devices, and communication networks.
Controls & Instrumentation Support
Execute maintenance on control loops, PID controllers, and instrumentation associated with cooling manifolds, HDUs and all related monitoring systems.
Support commissioning, firmware upgrades, and logic validation for BMS and PLC systems.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure configuration changes are properly documented and validated.
Maintain accurate as-built drawings, calibration logs, and configuration backups.
Reliability & Incident Response
Respond to alarms and anomalies from the BMS, EPMS, or DCIM systems, diagnose issues, and restore normal operations.
Assist in root-cause analysis (RCA) for control-related incidents or system interruptions.
Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
Participate in testing and verification during emergency power transfers, load bank tests, and system reconfigurations.
Compliance, Documentation & Reporting
Maintain calibration certificates, inspection records, and test documentation in compliance with internal QA and regulatory standards.
Ensure adherence to safety policies (LOTO, arc flash, electrical safety, etc.).
Provide detailed reports on control system health, alarm trends, and performance metrics.
Preferred Certifications
Red Seal and/or Certificate Of Qualification for Instrumentation and Controls Technician
Class C-R instrument mechanic FSR is an asset
Electrical Safety certification
WHMIS, First Aid, and confined space training
Working Conditions
24/7 mission-critical environment may require after hour availability.
Work may involve exposure to high-voltage areas, moving mechanical equipment, and liquid cooling systems.
Required to wear PPE and follow strict safety protocols.
