Job Description


We are looking for a qualified and experienced instructor / coordinator for the Carcross Campus of Yukon University. This is a full-time term position that will support campus operations, and, as and when needed, provide instruction in First Nations governance, public administration, management, and introductory or prerequisite classes / ABE. This position is headquartered in Carcross and will have significant interaction with Carcross / Tagish First Nation in the organization, development, and delivery of credit and noncredit programming. Delivery modalities will include in person, hybrid, and fully remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Dept Head, prepare and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and assignments on topics such as Yukon First Nations history, land claims, final agreements, self-government, organizational management, management systems operations, ABE preparatory courses and other curricular offerings.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on students\' academic performance and progress.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to ensure the quality and relevance of the course content and delivery.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and respond to their inquiries and concerns.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of curriculum and programming.
  • Assist with daily campus operations and responsibilities.
  • Develop and or sustain excellent working relationships with the government of CTFN, Carcross and community.
Qualifications:
  • A master\'s degree or higher in Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, Education, Sciences, History, or a related field.
  • At least three years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level, preferably in Indigenous Studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Yukon First Nations history, culture, and governance, as well as the Umbrella Final Agreement and the 11 self-governing First Nations agreements.
  • Experience working with or for Yukon First Nations governments, organizations, or communities is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Respect for and sensitivity to the diversity and needs of Indigenous students and communities.
