Job Summary:
The Department of Social Services at Langara College delivers a Social Service Worker Certificate.
The successful applicant will work as a member of the Social Services Department, teaching SSRV 1119: Social Service Methods II, to students in the Certificate program.
This course is scheduled from 130-420 on MW afternoons.
:
Duties will include:Preparation and delivery of curriculum.
Maintaining office hours and availability to consult with students;
Evaluating student performance;
Attending meetings both internally in the College and externally in the community
In the case of a continuing appointment, there will be additional departmental and college duties
Working within the context of the policies and procedures of Langara College, the Department of Social Services, and the British Columbia Social Work Code of Ethics
There is potential for additional work in the Department of Social Services.
Course Description:
Building on the concepts of Social Service Methods I (SSRV 1116), this course will emphasize the mastery of practical skills and their application to the helping relationship. The course is founded upon a model of client and worker empowerment which incorporates the BC College of Social Workers' Code of Ethics.
Students will examine the context and nature of the helping relationship, based on a structural framework for conducting helping interviews. A key part of the course is the skill-building students develop through roleplays, some of which are recorded and critiqued.
Required Qualifications:Minimum Master's degree in Social Work;
Eligible for Registration with the College of Social Workers of BC;
Demonstrated expertise in the field of Social Work.
Teaching experience in public post-secondary institution(s) or equivalent;
Excellent communication skills;
Relevant involvement in the community;
Knowledge of community resources;
Basic computer literacy

Salary Range:
$46.06 - $142.49
Salary Range Placement: Salary placement is on Langara instructors' salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
