We are seeking one ongoing part-time role and up to three temporary part-time roles!

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Education Experience, the Instructor, Science Education is primarily responsible for inspiring a love of science in young learners through the delivery of curriculum-based school science education programs, which may occur onsite, at client locations, or via technology.

As an Instructor, Science Education, you will bring our programs to life for students and teachers through a unique blend of instructive skill and passion for science. Ideal candidates will possess thorough knowledge of our curriculum-based programs and become adept at utilizing the necessary skills and knowledge required to operate all specialty equipment used in program presentation.

Instructors also support the stewardship of our programs through program maintenance, input into the assessment of program effectiveness, and future program development.

Duties

In conjunction with and under the direction of the Director of Education and the Manager of Education Experience, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

Present curriculum-based school science education programs to school groups, students and teacher in-service sessions; Respond in a knowledgeable manner to requests for information on the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton, our programs and science-related questions; Ensure all materials, supplies and equipment is available, prepared, in working condition and in the appropriate areas according to organization standards; Liaise with group leaders and teachers to promote positive ongoing relationships; Participate in the assessment, evaluation and development of science education programs; Ensure the safety of all program participants; and o Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Public speaking, teaching, or theatrical experience Excellent oral and written communication skills Familiar with the Alberta Education Science Curriculum Working knowledge of general science o General knowledge of science lab practices Excellent customer service skills o Knowledge and experience in early childhood education (preferred) o Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset Understanding of interactive technology o May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Education and Experience:

University or equivalent post-secondary degree in Education Post-Secondary degree/diploma or extensive experience in one of the following areas an asset: technology, science, or science communication Post-degree formal classroom instructional experience o Alberta Teaching Certificate (preferred) o Valid Alberta driver's license with a good driving record
Note: A clean Police Information Check including the vulnerable sector is a condition of employment for successful candidates. The check must be completed prior to commencement of work and is the financial responsibility of the candidate.

Wages: $26.54-$32.79 per hour based on the 2023-2024 Collective Agreement with Civic Service Union 52 (PT235).

Hours of Work: 10-27.5 hours per week, based on booking demand.

Must be available Monday to Friday as well as occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
