Instructor, Paramedic Programs (Casual)


PCP Rate: $29.37 to $44.24 per hour



ACP Rate: $30.24 to $45.81 per hour



Location: Slave Lake



August 27, 2025 to June 30, 2026




Qualifications:



An Advance Care Paramedic Diploma is required to assist with the ACP program; A Primary Care Paramedic Certificate is required to assist with the PCP program; Must have a good standing with the Alberta College Paramedics; Excellent communication and organizational skills; Clear Criminal Record/ Vulnerable Sector Check; Unrestricted, Class 4 Alberta Driver's License.

Nature and Scope of Work





Casual Wage Instructors will need to travel to the Slave Lake campus for the Primary Care Paramedic and/or for Advanced Care Paramedic programs to assist with student onsite skills weeks. Responsibilities during these onsite weeks include assisting full-time instructors with preparing and delivery of instruction and evaluation of students' skills, this includes running various skill stations, scenario practice, and testing. Help to foster student readiness to meet the expectations of a capable practitioner. Build and maintain stakeholder relations, and adhere to college values, policies, procedures and regulations. Work as an integral member of the program team. Mileage reimbursement, travel time pay, and accommodations will be provided as necessary. You may pick up as many or as little shifts as you wish, however preference will be given to those with greater availability. This position reports to the Chair, Paramedic Programs.


Duties and Responsibilities





Instruction


Maintain subject matter expertise and competencies required to instruct assigned skill materials. Establish a working knowledge of the learning outcomes, resources, assessments and delivery methods; to ensure one is able to effectively and efficiently carry out the required skill instruction. Establish and maintain a working knowledge of paramedic programs expectations and standards. Provide individual and group instruction in the classroom and lab settings, adhering to approved program learning outcomes and established program standards. Develop a working knowledge and implement teaching techniques, strategies, and approaches to engage adult learners in effective, meaningful learning experiences. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and strategies appropriate for adult learners in face-to-face delivery. Maintain current knowledge of professional practice expectations and standards established for the industry by regulatory and governing bodies, and current legislations. Foster student development in a manner that supports students to be prepared to meet professional practice expectations. Ensure exam security and supervise exams as required. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment for students.

Student Relations and Support




Ensure a working knowledge of student's rights and responsibilities with the college. Encourage students to take pride in their performance and progress. Employ positive feedback, encouragement, and constructive criticism to enhance learning outcomes and to support students to overcome barriers and challenges, as appropriate. Encourage students to review or reflect on their performance on a regular basis. Establish clear, consistent, and reasonable expectations for student behaviour; consistent with college expectations and expectations of the profession. Support students to access educational resources as required. Build a professional working relationship with students; advocate on behalf of students as appropriate. Demonstrate respect for individual differences and diversity. Encourage peer support activities.

Quality Assurance in Program and Service Delivery


Maintain a working knowledge of professional practice standards, code of ethics, legislations and regulations and practice guidelines. Model a positive and professional image in representing the profession. Maintain current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Maintain and encourage professional, positive, and productive public relations. Maintain a high standard of client service. Maintain confidentiality of information and student records in accordance with FOIP legislation, policies, procedures and regulations. Be familiar with and adhere to college and program policies, procedures and guidelines. Be familiar with relevant OH&S legislations and workplace policies, contribute to a safe and healthy work and learning environment. Adhere to the requirements in the use of college technology in accordance with the guidelines, security measures and policies set forth by the college. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honouring schedules, managing resources, and identifying inefficiencies when they exist. Engage in self-reflection and address areas for improvement as recognized. Carry out duties in compliance with applicable legislations, professional regulations, and college policies.
