The Lakeshore Campus of Lethbridge Polytechnic, located at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, seeks a casual Personal Development Instructor to teach within the Personal Development Program. The individual will instruct Indigenous Release Planning.
This course is offered multiple times a year for 4 nights a week each session in person at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre. The appointed instructor will also be responsible for the distance delivery of the course by correspondence at the Medicine Hat Remand Centre (presence on site is not required). The course focuses on preparing Indigenous inmates for their upcoming release back into mainstream society. Topics include cultural awareness of Indigenous and non-Indigenous society, spiritual awareness and resources and agencies available to them.
Course Delivery is in the evening (6:00 pm-9:35pm) on the following dates:
Sept. 22 -25/25
Nov. 24 - 27/25
Mar. 9 - 12/26
May 11 - 14/26
Course Delivery through Correspondence occurs on the following dates:
Nov. 3 - 7/25
May 4 - 8/26
Position Details
The instructor is responsible for recruitment of students, curriculum development, classroom preparation and instruction, student attendance and grading.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in one of the social sciences or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with employment counselling and knowledge of community agencies provincially is considered an asset.
Work experience with adult learners and/or in a correctional centre is an asset.
Indigenous knowledge and/or background is preferred.
Salary
$55/hour
