This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students\xe2\x80\x99 progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College\xe2\x80\x99s policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.
Job Duties/Responsibilities 1. Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects. 2. Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate. 3. Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students\xe2\x80\x99 progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance. 4. Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions. 5. Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it. 6. Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools. 7. Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training. 8. Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information. 9. Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements. 10. Performs other related duties as required.
Area Hiring Criteria
Red Seal Cook Certification of Qualification
Minimum three (3) years recent experience in a professional kitchen with a minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory role
FoodSafe Level 2
Undergraduate Degree or Diploma with an emphasis in adult education, special education, psychology, disability studies, vocational/career development
Provincial Instructor\xe2\x80\x99s Diploma (completed or in progress) or equivalent instructional certification
Minimum three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating educational, employment readiness, and skills training programs and courses for persons with intellectual disabilities
Thorough knowledge of and experience applying current best practice in procedures, techniques, and methodologies for providing instruction and evaluating adults with a range of developmental disabilities, including but not limited to: intellectual disabilities; learning disabilities; autism spectrum disorder; and mental illnesses
Current knowledge of community agencies and support services available to persons with disabilities
Knowledge of the effects of intellectual disabilities and mental health issues on the vocational development and functioning level of students
Knowledge of current labour market information and trends as it relates to employment for persons with disabilities
Experience and abilities in job coaching and supporting students on practicum, marketing students to prospective employers, and creating relevant partnerships and success oriented practicums
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational and report writing skills
Ability to work without supervision, pay attention to detail, and to work as an effective team member

(Desired) Proficiency with MS Office applications
