Your Opportunity:
The Critical Care Program at the University of Alberta Hospital consists of the General Systems Intensive Care Unit (GSICU) and Edmonton Firefighters' Burn Treatment Unit, one of two American Burn Association (ABA) verified burn units in Canada. The GSICU is a Level 1 Trauma Center and Transplant Center for Edmonton, Northern AB, SK, Northern BC, and the Northern Territories. The Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) for GSICU uses principles of adult learning and assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the education and development needs of staff. The incumbent facilitates, coordinates and supports the implementation of educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and in-service/continuing education. The CNE will be providing education and support to RNs providing care to critically ill patients with life-threatening conditions. Using a multidisciplinary approach, our team cares for patients experiencing organ system failures, including renal failure, hemodialysis and/or Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). Our team supports the Walter McKenzie Center site for Code Blue and the Medical Emergency Team (MET). RNs in this program provide care to patients requiring specialized isolation (Ebola) in the Specialized Isolation Unit (SIU). In addition, you may assist with education and support to staff caring for patients with large burns or complex wounds requiring intensive care level monitoring, extensive dressing changes and specialized rehabilitation, wound care management, and pediatric patients with burns not requiring advanced airway support.
