The Brampton YMCA Centre is one of nine full service health and fitness centres across the Greater Toronto area. The Centre provides a full range of services and community programs to more than 9,000 members, including children, youth and adults, who represent the diversity of Toronto and its communities.



The Instructor Children and Youth Dance teaches dance specific programming to children and youth. Instructors develop short and long term lesson plans that identify the unique needs of the participants. Instructors maintain a safe environment at all times.


In this role, you will:




Delivers course content and examines participants following industry standard dance criteria. Develops and implements sequential weekly lesson plans. Recognizes participant learning styles and delivers content accordingly. Coaches and develops participants to meet success. Communicates (verbal and written) child's progress to parents and Supervisor. Maintain accurate, up to date weekly progress sheets and records for participants. Takes attendance, ensures participants are signed into and out of the program. Sets up and takes down recreational, program and other equipment as required - at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation). Actively participates in scheduled programs, meetings and special events. In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location. Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff. Performs other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor.

You bring:




Diploma or degree in Fine Arts (Dance) or equivalent training through a recognized organization Current certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: Standard First Aid & CPR level C Minimum 1 year experience Instructing Children and Youth in Dance Good theoretical and practical knowledge of various stages of child and youth development through previous related experience and continuing professional development Ability to encourage and motivate members and volunteers and acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions evidence continuing professional development in working with children and youth Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers Excellent written communication skills Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity Flexibility regarding assigned work schedules, including weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends
