About the Role:





The Child and Youth Instructor delivers quality instruction in our Child and Youth programs to members and participants. This role may lead one or more YMCA programs - including basketball, soccer, floor hockey, volleyball, creative arts and leadership - while creating a safe, fun and welcoming environment for participants ages 3 to 17 years. Within our Child Minding program, you will be responsible for the care, safety and well-being of multiple children at one time while their parents attend YMCA Programming within the building. You will be required to display an understanding of the healthy development of children in this age group and to clearly communicate with children between 2 months- 12 years old and their parents in a positive, caring and respectful manner.


Responsibilities:




Facilitate high-quality programs and activities for program members by providing developmentally appropriate activities in all program areas. Build positive and respectful relationships with children and families, demonstrating strong communication skills in addressing concerns. Provide opportunities for members/participant to learn and develop. Manage member/participant behavior in accordance with the YMCA Code of Conduct. Work as a member of a team of staff and volunteers to offer quality program experiences for children. Consistently uphold the YMCA's values and mission by promoting healthy living, encouraging inclusive participation, supporting programs through individual strengths, enhancing service quality, and representing YMCA as a charitable organization in alignment with Service that Shines standards. Maintains a safe and supportive environment for all by following YMCA Health Safety Child Protection and Emergency policies and procedures. Ensure all safety documents are completed accurately, all sign-in and out procedures for parents are followed, and staff is following head counts and maintaining ratios.

Qualifications:




Minimum 15 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset. Early Childhood development or related experience is an asset. NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills is an asset. Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR-C. Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector check. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
