The School of Applied Sciences and Technology has an opening for a full-time salaried Instructor in the Biomedical Engineering Technology program. A candidate for this position should be an energetic leader of students, have well developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, be committed to student motivation and achievement, work independently within established policies, be dedicated to a service model, and work cooperatively as a team member.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present courses in both classroom and lab settings
  • Organize and supervise practical assignments
  • Conduct student evaluations and maintain progress records
  • Seek regular feedback from students and staff on instructional effectiveness and relevance
  • Participate in course review, program review and curriculum development.
  • Maintain contact with relevant industries
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications and program promotions
  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues
  • Develop, select and revise course material and curriculum on an ongoing basis to ensure relevancy to industry standards and to maximize student success
  • Coordination of student practicum, tours and equipment loans
  • Improve the quality of instruction through professional development activities
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge in several of the following topical areas is essential: Critical care monitoring, surgical equipment, data networking in clinical environments, dialysis, women\'s health, biomedical instrumentation application and management, PC repair and networking, basic electronics, digital and analog circuits, x-ray systems, ultrasound imaging, CT and MR systems.
  • Experience with and demonstrated enthusiasm for prototyping electromechanical systems including power conversion and regulation, input transducer signal conditioning, output power driver and motor systems, imbedded microcontroller interfacing, programming microcontrollers using Arduino, and programming graphical user interfaces using Processing
  • Experience with and demonstrated enthusiasm for 3D modeling and 3D printing
Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a related advanced Engineering degree (masters) or applicable Technology diploma, with several years of industry experience
  • Several years\' experience as a Biomedical Technologist in a clinical setting
  • Previous instructional experience or seminar course presentations would be a definite asset
Remuneration: Will commensurate with education and experience - $2,462.86 - $4,284.34 biweekly PLUS a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - NASA Instructor)

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
