You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Instructor, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) reports directly to the Program Head and is located at the Saskatchewan Aviation Learning Centre in Saskatoon. The incumbent instructs SIIT students in the classroom, laboratory or shop environments and assists during consultation hours. As an employee of SIIT, positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT\'s vision, mission and mandate.General AccountabilityAs the educational leader in the classroom, instructors will be responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula with the purpose of promoting student success. Working collaboratively with a team of educational professionals, instructors will demonstrate a strong commitment to create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment at SIIT.Specific AccountabilitiesInstructors are required to keep current with developments in their subject area, instructional resources and methods, and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities to suit the individual needs of their students. The incumbent will be required to organize the curriculum to create a learning environment that guides and promotes student success. These include the following broad areas of accountability:Instruction and Administration

  • Deliver and develop course related material
  • Complete all course-related materials including attendance records and course evaluations
  • Maintain program equipment, shop facilities and materials to ensure a safe and organized work environment
  • Incorporate current technology advancements within all aspects of instruction and administration
  • Use appropriate methods of instruction, modeling, coaching, etc. to facilitate student learning
  • Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time frames
  • Seek professional development opportunities to keep current and relevant in applicable teaching areas, educational standards, industry trends, and best practices
Student Success
  • Under the direction of the Program Head, organize, supervise and/or monitor work practicum experiences
  • Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures
Relationship Management & Leadership
  • Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
  • Attend and positively contribute during staff, department, and institute meetings
  • Foster a positive, collaborative and professional working relationship among students, coworkers and partners across the institution
  • Develop and maintain respectful relations through the use of problem-solving and constructive resolution of student issues
  • Maintain classroom, shop and laboratory discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to the applicable supervisor regarding student behaviour, including formal student disciplinary action
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
Required Qualifications and Experience: A valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer\'s License; category E. Graduated from an approved Transport Canada-approved ATO avionic program. Adult Education Certification with prior teaching experience would be an asset. Understanding of Aviation avionic training program CAR 566. For success in this position, a genuine commitment to helping students learn and succeed is required. Knowledge of First Nations\' culture and organizations is an asset. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset.As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT\'s Alcohol and Substances policy.Required Competencies: Flexible & Adaptable; Effective Communication; Relationship Building; Results Oriented; Student Focus; Communication (Instructional); Knowledge & Expertise; Teamwork.
