Job Title: Instructor, Advanced Sculpture II

: The qualified candidate should have:

Experience working with the following materials to create sculpture: wood, metal, plaster, resin, wax, stone, soft materials and found objects/materials. Experience with materials not listed will be considered an additional asset.

Some experience with or knowledge of the following processes: woodworking, metal working, stone carving, plaster casting and direct building methods, resin casting, wax casting and modelling, mould-making. Experience with methods of fabrication not listed will be considered an asset.

Some experience with the following tools/equipment and their applications: workshop woodworking tools including saws and lathe, welders, torches, grinders, sanders, and foundry furnace. Experience with other tools and their applications will be considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The work includes:

  • Four hours of class time per week
  • Lectures, demonstrations and providing guidance as students work on projects
  • Leading critique, one-on-one feedback, evaluation of projects
  • Weekly office hours
  • Participating in departmental activities
Required Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Fine Arts or related field or demonstrated and recognized mastery within traditional and/or contemporary Indigenous studio practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching at post-secondary level or equivalent
  • Professional practice in sculpture. Please indicate in your CV your history of public presentations of your work in a professional context, including any grants, awards, publications and a bibliography of critical reviews
  • Contact information for three professional references
  • Portfolio of related independent body of work (15 images)
Length of appointment: January 1st 2024 \xe2\x80\x93 April 30 2024

The successful candidate, if new to the LFA (instructional), may be appointed up to one month in advance for the purpose of course preparation.

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors\xe2\x80\x99 salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
