About the opportunity


The College of Sustainability invites applications for a 1-year (July 1, 2025 - June 31, 2026), 100% FTE Instructor position for a teaching and administrative duties in the College of Sustainability, with approximately 80% of duties in teaching and 20% in administration. The candidate will teach SUST 1000.06, "What is Sustainability?" in the Fall term (Hybrid Course, 6 credit hours) and teach SUST 1400.03, "Exploring Sustainability" in the Winter and Summer terms (Online, 3 credit hours each). An additional 6 credit hours of courses will be determined and assigned by the Director of the College of Sustainability.

The instructor will be expected to fulfill the following duties:

Teach the minimum equivalent of 18 credit hours of teaching per year plus honours thesis and/or project supervision. Fulfill teaching assignments including attend all scheduled classes, tutorials, labs and examinations; TA training sessions and regular TA meetings; Hold weekly set office hours in the College office space or online, for a minimum of 1.0 hours per week, per course, per semester; Collaborate to develop new courses, and improve existing courses; Attend the annual College of Sustainability Curriculum Workshop (1 full day, typically between April 10-30); Attend weekly staff meetings, monthly curriculum meetings, other College and university wide meetings; Participate in various College standing and ad hoc committees, and fulfill other assigned administrative tasks; Provide support to Open House, Academic Program Fair, academic advising, and other recruitment and retention activities; Work effectively and collaboratively with College staff; Support College life through attending designated ESS Thursday evening lectures, TA appreciation events, the CoS Fall Orientation event, designated student engagement events, one spring Convocation ceremony and the CoS Convocation reception (May- June convocation).



The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness in undergraduate fields related to writing, research, and experiential learning; experience in online education; and, ideally, experience in team teaching and leading community-based research and projects in environmental history, sustainability, and social change.

Additional qualifications and experiences required include:

Masters required, PhD preferred, in a field relevant to Environment, Sustainability and Society Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD or Masters in in a field related to Canadian history, environmental history, or the history of sustainability and development, ideally with some expertise in Indigenous-settler relations in the Canadian context. A record of effectiveness and innovation in undergraduate teaching; Expertise in teaching problem-based and project-based learning approaches, project management, and broad research methods; A record of effectiveness in group learning and collaborative team-teaching approaches; A record of contributions to the scholarship of learning and teaching will be an asset.
