Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director-Academic Programs, Faculty of Engineering, the Instructional Designer collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop and create online courses and learning experiences. This is a one-year term position.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Design and develop engaging, student-centered, and high-quality online learning experiences that promote active learning and align with best practices in online education.
• Apply instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Bloom's Taxonomy, Backward Design) to create outcome-driven learning experiences.
• Utilize various technologies (LMS, MS Office, multimedia, etc.) to develop course materials.
• Ensure course design adheres to McGill's course design policies, accessibility guidelines, and best practices in online pedagogy.
• Coordinate with university cross-functional teams to ensure seamless course delivery.
• Review and revise course materials to enhance their effectiveness for online delivery.
• Develop assessment strategies in collaboration with SMEs, ensuring alignment with McGill's assessment policy.
• Manage course design projects from conception to delivery, ensuring timely completion.
• Contribute to program-level design to ensure consistency and continuity across courses.
• Participate in quality assurance processes and implement established procedures.
• Share insights and lessons learned with the design team regularly to improve practices.
• Integrate and build course materials, assessments, and activities in the LMS.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

• Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field is highly preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in higher education.
• Proven expertise in instructional design theory and its application to online learning.
• Knowledge of a variety of web-based instructional technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and manage work priorities and adhere to timelines.
• Familiarity working with Learning Management Systems (Brightspace preferred).
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be fluent in both English and French
