Job Summary
Within the Faculty of Medicine, the Medical Information Technology (MedIT) unit provides technology and information support services to the medical and health education programs at Dalhousie. Reporting to the Manager of Academic Technology, the Instructional Design Technologist will work directly with faculty members to design, develop, and implement high-quality synchronous and asynchronous learning resources that align with the school's educational goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with unit/component heads, Assistant Deans, Curriculum Manager, Simulated Patient Educators, and others as required, develop a variety of learning resources, including interactive modules, videos, simulations, case studies, and assessments.
Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to analyze current curriculum and identify areas for improvement in how curriculum is accessed by learners. Facilitate the transition from traditional teaching methods to blended and online learning formats.
Apply adult learning principles, instructional design models, and multimedia and graphic design tools to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
Act as the primary point of contact for faculty and staff regarding the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) within the Faculty of Medicine, working closely with support staff at all campus locations and clinical teaching sites.
Provide training and support to faculty and staff on how to effectively use the LMS to deliver course content, manage assessments, and communicate with students. Ensure all learning resources are accessible and formatted correctly within the LMS.
Evaluate the effectiveness of learning resources through data analysis and feedback from learners and faculty. Working with the Manager, Academic Technology, implement continuous improvement processes to ensure that learning resources meet quality standards.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field plus approximately three to five years relevant experience in instructional design.
Proven expertise in using and supporting Learning Management Systems (LMS) and experience with MSOffice suite. Commitment to constantly update knowledge of educational technology, instructional design, and professional practices.
Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently.
Proven ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines while demonstrating strict attention to detail.
Assets
Instructional design experience in a medical or higher education setting.
Experience in Brightspace.
Familiarity with medical terminology and the structure of medical education.
