) Institutional Research and Planning Junior Analyst

. This position supports assigned research and projects for institutional research and planning. Assists the team in collaborating with stakeholders both internal to BCIT and external agencies and organization on variety of data and information requests. Assists in developing, compiling and coordinating consultation documents, executive summaries or briefing notes for senior leader recommendation. Conducts other duties as assigned.

Works with the team on assigned research and projects by:


conducting qualitative and quantitative research for assigned projects and enrolment planning and forecasting reporting using descriptive and inferential statistics; contributing to development of complex databases required for enrolment planning and forecasting, enrolment management and institutional research reporting; supporting the preparation of written reports, presenting findings and making recommendations to institutional research and planning management team; assisting in conducting preliminary data gathering in designing, researching, validating and reviewing pilot projects related to institutional research and planning analytics, dashboards and key performance indicators; analyzing and providing findings using various business intelligence software; supporting in timely delivery of projects as they pertain to strategic initiatives across all levels of BCIT; utilizes a variety of software tools and applications for research, analysis, and presentation purposes; providing support towards data validation to support institutional data integrity; ensuring quality assurance of reporting and analysis prior to sharing with stakeholders; completing assigned deliverables towards annual cycle of reviews and reports as assigned.





Supports the team by:


participating in designing and modeling unified information flows and structures, such as meta data, data warehouse, data marts, slowly changing dimensions, analytical applications; assisting in administering, coordinating, auditing, validating of routine surveys, and reporting of survey data; developing, revising, and maintaining standard technical documentation as assigned.



Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on assigned institutional research and enrolment planning by:


participating in various working groups concerning data integrity, data integration, and standardization including all relevant departments and offices; responding to a variety of internal and external data and information requests. Supporting the IRP communication plans related to web-based communications, communication schedules, inter-departmental communications and key information dissemination



Undertakes other related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.


Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS





Definition:

The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent's existing qualifications.



Education:


Bachelor's degree in an appropriate analytical discipline (such as economics, sociology, management science, engineering, computing or accounting), with specialized courses in statistics and/or research methodology or a completed Diploma in related discipline.





Experience:


Two years general experience plus two year related experience in a quantitative research field and preferably in a post-secondary environment.



Software Computer Application(s) and Expertise:


Knowledge of reporting languages and structured query language (SQL) Strong knowledge of business intelligence and analytical tools (such as Cognos 10, Tableau, Power BI or Qlikview). Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, such as Microsoft Excel, and databases, such as Microsoft Access, included but not limited to experience making mathematical and statistical calculations, pivot tables, graphs, etc. Strong knowledge of MS Office, statistical software (such as SPSS, R, etc.), and data science (such as Python, etc.), business analytics applications.



Communication and Interpersonal Skills:


Ability to communicate effectively to a culturally and technically diverse audience, both verbally and in writing Excellent verbal and written communications skills including experience preparing, synthesizing, and writing reports for a wide audience Proven ability to produce high quality reports and present statistical and analytical concepts to a non-technical audience. Strong presentation and interpersonal skills



Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.):


Results-oriented with proven analytical, organizational, and project management skills Ability to work on multiple complex projects simultaneously and handle changing priorities and deadlines.



Other Skills Abilities:


Acute attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy with sound numeric skills including an understanding of inferential statistics and their application to institutional research and planning. Must have an understanding of public post-secondary education and its market environment and structure

Salary Range

Salary Grade 7: $59,214 - $64,490 per annum.


Additional Salary Information


External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
