Position Details
Agility is a 100% grant and donor funded Innovation and Entrepreneurship program that exists for all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Lethbridge. Our programs, events, and supports are designed to develop the innovation and entrepreneurial mindset and skills necessary for the 'future of work'. Activities supported by Agility help to build an atmosphere of creative discovery where students can explore and develop new ideas in a risk-free environment where failure is a way to learn.
The new state of the art Agility Innovation Zone (makerspace) opened in September 2019 and provides the space and tools our community needs to bring their ideas to life.
The Innovation Zone Assistant will work to advance the culture of innovation, making, prototyping, and entrepreneurship at the University of Lethbridge and will be responsible for mentoring students and supporting the day-to-day operations and trainings within the Zone (http://www.uleth.ca/agility). The successful candidate will work closely with the Agility Innovation Zone Coordinator, faculty, staff, and students.
The tasks and duties for this position include but are not limited to:Day-to-day maintenance of the Agility Innovation Zone equipment.
Mentoring and supporting students in the Innovation Zone on equipment and projects.
Promote the Innovation zone to students, staff, faculty, and community.
Assist users with troubleshooting software to hardware integrations.
Assist the Coordinator of the Zone and Director of Agility with other Agility related activities as needed.
Salary
: $25.00 per hour.
Hours
: 28 hours per week, Tuesday to Friday.
Position Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a diploma (degree preferred) in new media, engineering, education, or related field and minimum of 3 years of experience. Knowledge, training, and experience in Design Thinking, Agile product development, fabrication, makerspace equipment, entrepreneurship, and teaching/mentoring post-secondary students is required.
We are looking for an individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to innovation who can demonstrate the following skills and abilities:University/College degree/diploma/certificate in New Media, Engineering, Education, or related field
Mentorship/Leadership experience.
Superior communication skills.
Initiative and self-direction, but also able to work as part of a team.
Comfortable interacting with diverse stakeholders.
Sound and timely problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of emerging innovation technologies.
Possess a passion for how making intersects with design, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Possess knowledge and experience with typical equipment found in makerspaces such as (but not limited to) 3D printers, vinyl cutters, and laser cutters.
Comfortable with utilizing and teaching others the software and hardware associated with makerspace technologies.
Passionate about technology and its implications for making, as well as encouraging others in the field.
