The Role: In-Home Support Worker (Backfill for 18 Months Maternity Leave)
In-Home Family Support is a strengths-based, family-centered intervention program that provides customized support to families to ensure children of all ages are safe, well-nurtured, and thriving at home. Our approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a deep respect for the unique values and traditions that shape each family's parenting journey.
We work alongside families to prevent, reduce, or eliminate risk factors that may compromise a child's well-being, while enhancing family functioning and supporting reunification where needed. Our team partners with caregivers to build parenting capacity, improve communication, address problematic behaviours, and develop effective crisis management strategies.
We support families through coaching, tools, and encouragement tailored to their unique needs. Our team helps identify strengths, improve communication, address behavioural challenges, and build effective crisis response strategies. We also connect families to natural supports and community resources to promote safety, stability, and long-term well-being.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and facilitate activities and interventions for child, family, and communities to enhance protective factors and reduce risk
Enhance family support networks, both formal and informal for diverse populations
Integrate different roles such as coach, mentor, support, advocate, resource person and facilitator
Support families during points of crisis
Enhance parental capacity by supporting and strengthening skill and knowledge in areas such as sensitive parenting, ages and stages, positive parenting practices etc
Significant report-writing and collection of outcomes data
Engage and build relationships with, and between, families, individuals, Children's Services staff, communities, schools, and other service providers
Knowledge and Skills Expectations
Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services related field (equivalencies will be considered)
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with children and families
Working knowledge of Child Development, Ages & Stages, Positive Parenting, Parental Sensitivity, Systems Theory and Attachment Theories, Grief and Loss, and Trauma Informed Care
Understanding of the child protection system and knowledge of local resources
Knowledge and experience with outcome measurement
Understanding of Infant and Adult Mental Health and ability to structure programming accordingly
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong critical thinking, engagement, and assessment skills
Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check (can be obtained with our help upon hire).
Valid Class 5 Driver's License, a Drivers Abstract, and a reliable vehicle with $2M liability
Reporting Relationship
This position reports directly to the Program Manager of In-Home and Family Support.
