About Us:


We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team in providing casual in-home respite, with opportunities to expand into community and recreational support for our 26-year-old son diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our son who is happiest when busy, enjoys the outdoors, creative hands-on activity and video games. We are a family managed service environment with a goal to provide him an engaging environment that includes daily living activities and opportunities that are both meaningful and enjoyable while encouraging his best level of independence. We provide supervised on-the-job training.

Work Schedule:



Initially, provide casual respite coverage on evenings and weekends, ranging from 5 to 15 hours per week, with flexibility. Alternatively, a minimum commitment of 12 hours per week may be considered. Opportunity to occasionally transition to providing in-home 24-hour respite care as skills and experience are gained.

What You Offer:



First Aid Training is required to ensure you can respond promptly and effectively to any medical emergencies. NVI/CPI Training is necessary to effectively manage potential crises and maintain a safe environment. Dependability and punctuality are key, as you must possess a valid AB driver's license, reliable transportation, and appropriate insurance coverage. Physical activity and involvement in activities are essential aspects of the role. You must have recently acquired or be willing to obtain a clear Vulnerable Sector/Police Criminal Clearance Check and Driver's abstract. You should have a steadfast belief in inclusion and a commitment to enabling all individuals to belong and contribute meaningfully to their community. Your ability to think and plan proactively, collaborating closely with our son and our family, will support his wellness and social skill development. An enthusiastic and energetic personality is essential, as is a calm and encouraging disposition, maintaining a positive mood throughout your work with him. Building a trusting, caring, and respectful relationship with our son is crucial for his well-being and progress. Active listening skills are a must, enabling you to identify his needs and promote effective problem-solving strategies. Excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency in English are essential for clear communication and engagement. Taking initiative and contributing suggestions and ideas for goal setting demonstrates your proactive approach to supporting our son's development.

Assets:



Previous experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, particularly those who are minimally verbal, will be highly beneficial. Experience with daily living activities and recreational pursuits will help you engage our son in meaningful ways. Training in Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Abuse Prevention techniques will prepare you for managing challenging situations effectively. A Food Safety Certificate will ensure you can safely prepare meals and snacks for our son as needed.

Problem Solving:

Actively listen and problem-solve to help manage feelings of anxiety and frustration, fostering a calm and supportive environment.

Daily Living Skills:

Coach and provide minimal assistance with daily living skills such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household chores as needed.

Personal Care & Hygiene:

Support independence in personal hygiene routines, including supervised bathing. No hands-on bathing assistance is required.

Activity Planning:

Proactively plan and participate in outings and in-home activities that align with our son's interests and developmental goals, ensuring engagement and enjoyment.

Social Skill Development

: Build a trusting and respectful relationship by demonstrating and encouraging the development of social skills through positive reinforcement and interactive engagement, fostering meaningful connections and social competence.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate documentation of daily activities, progress, and any incidents, ensuring clear communication with family members and other staff members.
