About the Role



Halfway River First Nation is seeking a caring, community-minded and culturally respectful In-Home Care Assistant / Elder Care Assistant to support our Elders and other community members in living safely, comfortably, and with dignity in their homes.

Reporting to the Health Manager and Nurse Practitioner, your work will include helping with daily activities based on individual care plans, offering companionship, and supporting the overall health and wellness of those in your care. This position plays a vital part in strengthening our community by ensuring our Elders continue to feel respected, connected, and cared for within the heart of Halfway River First Nation.

While your primary focus will be on In-Home Care, you will be expected to assist with other reasonable duties and responsibilities in the Health Care Department if needed.

Key Responsibilities



Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, mobility, and toileting. Support safe ambulation, transfers, and positioning using assistive devices. Encourage client independence and participation in self-care where appropriate. Offer medication reminders and assist with basic health monitoring. Perform simple household tasks including meal preparation and light housekeeping related to care. Assist with feeding if needed. Observe and report changes in the client's condition to supervising nurse. Maintain documentation and records as per designated health authority protocols. Follow infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use. Assist with range of motion (ROM) exercises under supervision. Attend training and orientation as required by the employer and designated health authority. Work collaboratively with family members, community nursing staff, and other caregivers to follow a comprehensive care plan and build strong, meaningful care relationships.

Qualifications



Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant (HCA) Certificate program (as approved by the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry*), or an equivalent combination of training and experience in personal or elder care.
Eligibility for registration or registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry*.
Clear criminal record check under CRRA (vulnerable sector). Valid CPR/First Aid certification. FOODSAFE Level 1 certification Knowledge of local traditions, language, and cultural protocols related to Elder care and community wellness. Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe care practices. Experience in community/home care preferred. Familiarity with patient care techniques and basic meal preparation. Ability to provide care with compassion, patience, and empathy. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a personal vehicle is preferred. Additional training, such as Alzheimer/ Dementia care courses are a strong asset.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
