Position Overview:
The Infusion/Injection Clinic Nurse is responsible for the safe, effective, and patient-centered administration of intravenous (IV) infusions, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, and related clinical care. This role supports the delivery of specialty therapies (e.g., biologics) in accordance with physician medical orders, clinic protocols, and regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Employee shall perform the following duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Patient Care
+ Perform nursing assessments prior to initiation of treatment.
+ Prepare and administer pre-infusion/injection medications, IV infusions and injections per physician medical orders, product monographs and clinic protocols.
+ Monitor patients during and post-infusion for adverse events and intervene where clinically indicated.
+ Educate patients on therapy, self-monitoring, and post-treatment care.
+ Properly document and report adverse events in a timely fashion, in accordance with Health Canada, Pharma and clinic guidelines.
+ Draw blood for laboratory testing in accordance with the physician requisition, ensuring proper labeling, handling, storage, and laboratory pickup.
+ Document all nursing interventions, vitals, and patient responses in the clinic EMR system accurately and in a timely manner.
Medication Handling
+ Safely reconstitute and prepare medications for administration using aseptic technique, in accordance with physician medical orders, product monograph, and clinic protocols.
+ Confirm proper medication storage, labeling, and handling in accordance with the product monograph and clinic protocols.
Infection Prevention & Safety
+ Adhere to aseptic technique, infection control policies, and safe sharps handling practices.
+ Follow clinic protocols for emergency situations (e.g., anaphylaxis management).
+ Participate in routine equipment maintenance, environmental cleaning, and compliance with OHSA and WHMIS regulations.
Team Collaboration
+ Communicate clearly with physicians, pharmacists, and other clinic team members to support coordinated care.
+ Participate in case conferences, training sessions, and clinical audits as directed by the Charge Nurse.
+ Support onboarding of new staff or learners as requested.
Professionalism & Compliance
+ Maintain active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and fulfill continuing education requirements.
+ Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and cultural sensitivity in all patient interactions.
+ Comply with clinic policies, privacy legislation (PHIPA), and all applicable clinical practice guidelines.
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Current BLS certification (ACLS considered an asset).
Proficient in cannulation, venipuncture, and management of infusion reactions.
Preferred experience in infusion therapy, immunology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, or ambulatory care.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
Strong communication, clinical judgment, and time management skills.
