The Information Systems and Technology (IST) department at the University of Waterloo provides information systems, technology, and services in support of teaching, learning, research, and administrative needs across campus. Within IST, the Information Systems group works with campus partners to develop, implement, and support information systems to meet the needs of the University.

This position is contingent on funding.

Responsibilities

IST is seeking a qualified Information Systems Specialist (Web Analyst) to provide both business and systems analysis for products within the Web Development portfolio including WCMS (v3) and UW Scholar. This role will lead or contribute to requirements gathering, analysis, prioritization and planning, and process mapping and documentation. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other Web Development team members and campus stakeholders to implement solutions based on data and information gathered through campus outreach. Key competencies for this role include intermediate-to-advanced business and systems analysis, relationship and change management, client service, creative problem solving, organization and planning, communication, and teamwork. The successful candidate will also have extensive experience with, and enthusiasm for, content management systems and web technologies in general and will also have experience working with a software development team using an agile framework to shape prioritization and velocity of work.
Ideally the successful candidate will also understand WCAG 2.0/2.1 accessibility guidelines and be able to apply that knowledge to inform all product activities and documentation as necessary.
The responsibilities of this role encompass a wide range of areas that currently include:

  • Build and maintain relationships with campus WCMS stakeholders
  • Information system planning, analysis, implementation, and support
  • Conducting advanced business analysis for Web Development products
  • Agile product planning and management
  • Collaboration on change management and documentation
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirements, such as AODA/WCAG 2.1, through product activities and documentation
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, and work experience in a similar technical service-oriented environment
  • Experience with business analysis on digital/web-based projects is required
  • Advanced systems analysis skills, as well as comprehensive experience implementing and supporting complex information systems
  • Expert knowledge around content management systems (Drupal strongly preferred) and other digital publishing capabilities
  • Specific experience analyzing content management systems and independently completing fit/gap analysis to match future user needs with product development
  • Proven ability to leverage strong leadership competencies in support of providing excellent client service
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced understanding of change management as it relates to information systems technology and processes
  • Experience with agile software development principles
  • General knowledge of web technologies and UX principles
  • Diligent, with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Must work as part of a team within a busy and dynamic environment, with experience managing multiple tasks at once
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and delivering consistent outstanding results on projects and other work assignments
  • Specific experience using governance structures to manage issues, gain acceptance for changes, and guide information systems projects of various sizes to successful implementation
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive and supportive manner with team members andclients
  • Previous experience with Atlassian software, particularly Jira Software and Jira Service Management, is an asset
